How is the performance of Snapdragon 860 (What level is Snapdragon 860)

Where is Snapdragon 860? How is the performance? Can it exceed Snapdragon 778G?

In fact, Snapdragon 860 is a small revision of Snapdragon 855 Plus. On Qualcomm's official website, the information pages of both have been merged. Snapdragon 860 is manufactured using TSMC's 7nm process and is designed with an eight-core CPU. It is composed of 1 A76 super-large core with a main frequency of 2.96GHz + 3 A76 large core with a main frequency of 2.42GHz + 4 A55 small cores with a main frequency of 1.8GHz. It supports 4 channels of LPDDR4X memory. The GPU is Adreno 640 and Hexagon 690 DSP. You can choose to plug in X24 or X50 baseband.

Of course, there are subtle differences between the two in some places. First, in terms of memory support capacity, the Snapdragon 855 Plus supports up to 12GB of memory, while the Snapdragon 860 supports up to 16GB of memory. Secondly, in terms of screen support, the Snapdragon 855 Plus supports dual 1080P resolution 60Hz screen, while the Snapdragon 860 supports dual 1080P resolution 90Hz screen, and finally, the Snapdragon 860 supports ultra-wide-angle lens night view mode, selfie night view mode, dual video and other new imaging functions.

The current mobile phones released in China do not use Snapdragon 860. Snapdragon 860 is mainly used on tablets. For example, Xiaomi Tablet 5 uses Snapdragon 860. The performance is just referenced to Snapdragon 855 Plus. So what level does Snapdragon 860 belong to in 2021?

I looked for the relevant data. In the CPU part, Snapdragon 860 and Snapdragon 778G are relatively close. Snapdragon 778G uses 4 2.4GHz A78 large cores. Considering that the IPC performance of the A78 architecture is about 25% stronger than A76, simply convert it. The 2.4GHz A78 is equivalent to the 3GHz A76 core, and is very close to the highest frequency of Snapdragon 860. Therefore, the single-core performance of the two is similar. In the multi-core, Snapdragon 778G is slightly ahead.

In the Geekbench 5 test, Snapdragon 860 scored 793 points in a single core, 2825 points in a multi-core, 789 points in a single core, and 2912 points in a multi-core, which is basically consistent with the theoretical analysis. In fact, the CPU scores of the two are quite similar. In terms of daily use, it can be considered that there is no gap.

As for the GPU part, it mainly refers to Antutu's test scores. The Snapdragon 860's GPU score is 20W, with a total score of about 55W. When Snapdragon 778G is equipped with LPDDR5 memory, its GPU score is only 16.6W, with a total score of about 56W. Therefore, in the CPU part, the Snapdragon 860 is still a treasure, which is stronger than the current mid-range chips. It is more consistent with the previous generation of high-end products of Fa Ge, Dimensity 1000+ GPU scores of Dimensity 1000+.close.

In general, the performance of the Snapdragon 860 is just about the performance of the AP part, compared with the current mid-range chips such as Snapdragon 778G, but it has certain advantages in gaming performance. Moreover, the Snapdragon 860 is not used on mobile phones. It is mainly used on tablets, which can have better heat dissipation and stronger performance release. Therefore, there is no need to worry that the performance of Snapdragon 860 is not enough, at least for 3 years without pressure.
