Harvey Smith, creative director of "Red Xia Island", confirmed in an interview with French media that the game had planned to launch the PS5 version before, but was cancelled because of Bethesda's acquisition: "Being acquired by Microsoft has changed a lot. They came in and said to us: 'There is no PS5 anymore, we will focus on Xbox, PC and XGP versions.'"
Harvey Smith's statement conflicts with the earlier remarks of Xbox President Phil Spencer. See (Phil Spencer: Exclusive games are part of the console industry; we did not take "Starry" away from PS players) Spencer once said in an exclusive interview with Xbox On: "We and Bethesda have absolutely not taken away any games from PS players, nor have they withdrawn any existing games."
However, Smith believes that "Red Xia Island" abandoning the PS5 platform is not a big deal, or even a good thing: "There is less of a platform to worry about, and the development is not that complicated. Joining XGP can make "Red Xia Island" the largest game in Arkane's history, with a large number of players and a total of 30 million subscribers."
"Red Xia Island" will be released on May 2 and will be available on the XS/PC platform.
