Does Fang Tian Painting Ji really exist? (An explanation of Fang Tian Painting Ji)

Historical facts and legends of Fang Tian Painting Ji

How about an item related to Lu Bu - Fang Tian Hua Ji? Is it fictional or real?

In people's impression, the weapon that Lu Bu usually uses is Fang Tian Hua Ji, and there is also a famous story about "Shooting the Gate at the Gate". This happened in the first year of Jian'an of Emperor Xian of Han (196). At that time, Lu Bu had arrived in Xuzhou. Yuan Shu sent Ji Ling to lead a total of more than 30,000 infantry and cavalry to fight against Liu Bei stationed in Xiaopei. Liu Bei asked Lu Bu for help. Most of Lu Bu's subordinates thought it was impossible to control it because Liu Bei was always a hidden danger. Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and Zhao Yun were all first-class generals. They are now named friends and will definitely be opponents in the future. It is better to use Yuan Shu to get rid of Liu Bei.

Lu Bu disagreed with this view, "Strictly, thousands of infantry soldiers and two hundred cavalrymen rushed to prepare." Since the number of people and horses he brought was much smaller than Ji Ling, he could not be hard-working. So Lu Bu "home outside Pei City, sent people to recruit people, and asked Ling and others to have fun with him." At this banquet, Lu Bu "ordered the army to plant halberds at the camp gate", and then announced to everyone: "You all look at Bu's small branch of halberds. Those who are in the middle should dismiss the troops. If they are not in the middle, they can leave a duel." As a result, Lu Bu fired "the middle branch of halberds", Ji Ling and others were shocked and said, "The general is the power of heaven", so they stopped the troops.

Some people believe that what Lu Bu shot this time was the "Fang Tian Hua Ji" and believed that it was a weapon that Lu Bu usually used, but this was wrong. The halberd is a long-pole weapon with a crescent-shaped scimitar on the head, which can be stabbed or cut. The one with a crescent-shaped scimitar on both sides is called Fang Tian halberd, and only one on one side is called Qinglong halberd. From the principle of leverage, the weight of the halberd is on the head, which is a laborious lever. Only those with strong strength can move. Because of this reason, the halberd has gradually become a kind of weapon for ceremonial use. Sometimes various patterns are also decorated on the halberd pole, called the Painted halberd.

In other words, the so-called "Fangtian Painting Ji" is a weapon with decorative patterns on the pole and crescent-shaped scimitar on the left and right sides of the front. This weapon is very impractical and is usually used as a decoration in the camp. The weapon that is more practical than the "Fangtian Painted Halberd" is a spear, which is the weapon that Lu Bu often uses. There is a record in "Book of the Later Han Dynasty": "Zhuo is coming, and the horse is shocked, and it is strange to be afraid to return. Lu Bu advised the order to advance, so he entered the door. Su stabbed him with a halberd, but Zhuo wrapped his armor and did not enter, injured his arm and fell into the car. Gu shouted, "Where is Lu Bu?' Bu said, "There is an edict to fight against the thief ministers." Zhuo cursed, "The mediocre dog dares to be like this!" Bu responded with a spear and stabbed Zhuo, and the interesting soldiers killed him."

In this record, there are spears and halberds. The weapon used by Lu Bu was a spear, but Li Su first stabbed Dong Zhuo with a halberd. Why did Li Su use a halberd? This is precisely because the halberd is not a practical weapon and is mostly used as a guard of etiquette and decoration. Dong Zhuo's guard usually has halberds, and Li Su belongs to the "local material". Since it is only used for ceremonial guards, it will not be maintained frequently in normal times. In actual combat, the halberd is a bit difficult to use, so Li Su used the halberd to kill Dong Zhuo, and finally Lu Bu stabbed Dong Zhuo to death with a spear. As Dong Zhuo's "captain of the guard", Lu Bu should usually hold his most advantageous weapon. From this, it is inferred that the weapons Lu Bu usually uses shouldIt's a spear.
