"Mirror 2" has ended here! "Mirror 2" development team announced bankruptcy and disbandment

Recently, the development team of "Mirror 2: Project X" issued an announcement stating that due to the impact of the incident on September 30, 2022, the game was criticized in a wave of bad reviews, and the development team was unable to make ends meet and was unable to continue to complete the development. The development team has now gone bankrupt and dissolved.

The development of subsequent chapters of "Mirror 2: Project X" will be suspended indefinitely. The follow-up development plans for "Novastella Island" and "DancingSim" have also been terminated, and unconditional refunds will be made to all users who purchase these two games from now on. The refund work of "Mirror 2: Project X" has been completed by about 30%, and all refunds will continue to be refunded.

The statement also mentioned that "the failure to meet the needs of players has led to a flood of negative reviews. This is indeed our problem and the consequences should be borne. However, we must clarify the false charges of "illegal fundraising fraud" and "illegal collection and sale of player privacy information" deducted."

Official Statement:

Dear players and friends, I'm sorry to meet you in this form. Due to the huge impact of the events on September 30 last year, the development team has gone bankrupt and disbanded. The subsequent chapter development work of "Mirror 2: Project X" will be suspended indefinitely. We hope that after we have the ability in the future, the development of subsequent chapters will be completed, and the game will remain in the current early experience state until the development is completed; the subsequent development plans of "Novastella Island" and "DancingSim" have also been terminated.

After we communicated and confirmed with the Steam platform, we will start unconditional refunds to all users who purchase "Novastella Island" and "DancingSim" from now on. Click [Help]-[Steam Customer Service] in the upper left corner of the Steam client, and find the corresponding product and select [I want to apply for a refund] (users who have been playing for more than two hours and have more than 14 days can also receive a refund). These two products will also be removed from the shelves within 4 weeks after the release of this announcement. Please complete the refund application as soon as possible before the game is removed.

In addition, the refund work of "Mirror 2: Project X" has been completed by about 30%. Please rest assured that we will continue to refund all refunds.

As of today, "Mirror 2: Project X" (including DLC) has sold a total of 4.2 million copies, with a pre-tax income of more than 18 million after sharing, accounting for only 37% of the R&D costs. Each chapter is produced and requires dozens of people to develop for 3 months. The early cost is 6 million, and the later production pipeline will cost 4 million.

The failure to meet the needs of players has led to a surge of negative reviews, which is indeed our questionThe questions should bear the consequences. But we must clarify the false charges of "illegal fundraising fraud" and "illegal collection and sale of player privacy information" deducted.

At the beginning of the "Mirror 2" project, our original intention was to put the player's experience first, make significant progress in gameplay, plot, graphics, music, etc., and maintain low prices. The R&D cycle of "Mirror 2" is very long. From 2019 to 2022, there were 4 versions: LIVE 2D version, U3D realistic version, UE4 realistic version, and UE4 cartoon rendering version. Each reversal is overturned, the time and cost are very expensive. We also try our best to achieve all the subtleties, such as the soundtrack, as well as the ultimate: each character has a vocal theme song tailored to the story, and in addition to Japanese, Chinese and English versions are also added, which not only creates a lot of difficulties in production, but also adds a lot of additional costs.

We launched crowdfunding when we made the U3D realistic version in 2020. Although the crowdfunding failed, we were very moved by the encouragement of more than 3,000 players, which is also the source of motivation for us to overcome difficulties and persevere. A few days before the release of the EA version, we sent the game KEY for free to all those involved in the crowdfunding as a thank you.

On January 21, 2022, the release of the EA version of "Mirror 2: Project X" is our highlight: 600,000 copies sold on the first day and 2 million copies sold in the first month (including paid DLC; free gifts during the first release of COSPLAY and original painting collection DLC). The income before tax after sharing the first month was 8 million, and 1/3 of the previous R&D costs were recovered. But at the same time, the popularity of breaking the circle has caused great trouble. We continue to receive warnings from relevant departments——Anonymous reports have been reported that we have illegal operations and have not stopped yet. With the focus, we have modified and deleted the online and subsequent development content. The creative workshop was blocked in August, and the last road was blocked.

The announcement of "A Letter to Players" on September 30, 2022 was released. We were really stupid: we didn't tell the truth directly, and we didn't expect it to be better to contact Steam first to ask if we could help with a refund. It took me 3 weeks to build a refund website, and the information needed to transfer money to strangers through Alipay was mistaken for stealing privacy...

In short, everything will accelerate from this day on. We expected to receive huge negative reviews and also expected the reputation to decline. But what we really didn't expect was that our sincere refund behavior would make players feel that we were going to "sell player privacy information", and some people even said with confidence, "My Steam account has been stolen, it must be these people who did it." The speed of the development of the incident was unexpected. It took us only a few days to vent our emotions from some people to the online violent carnival of most of the Internet. Some members of the team are constantly receiving harassment and personal threats; The scenes of team members taking care of their children outside were even secretly photographed and posted online; some team members' WeChat, phone numbers, home addresses, etc. were also sent online by humans...

Anyway, all this will eventually return to peace. But we are still taking this opportunity to say to our former teammates who are scattered around the world: I'm sorry, we failed you.

With the consent of all friends, we will release the list of production personnel below. I hope all friends will have a bright future!
