I understand this way: animation and comics are both storytelling. Whether the story is wonderful or not depends on the person who compiles the story and the person who tells the story. The person who tells the story in the comics is the painter, and the person who compiles the storytelling is the original work. Sometimes the two are the same person, and sometimes not the same person.
Most people who tell stories in animations are directors, and whether the animation is good or not depends mainly on the director.
Is the plot deeper? Everyone has a different definition of depth, and it is hard to judge. I would like to say a few animations that I think are considered in-depth.
The animated short film "Being a Person".
On a day when a widowed old man who was pedaling a tricycle to repair screen windows and doors and change glass, the sun rose in the morning. The old man woke up from a simple house covered with the big words of demolition, spread an egg as breakfast, then put on his clothes and boarded the tricycle, went out to find something to do, passed the bustling street, and waited with office workers and attending buses at the intersection of traffic lights, slowly walked through the bustling streets.
Walking through the corner where garbage is prohibited, walking through the vendors who set up stalls to shout vegetables, walking through the renovated Chenghuang Temple, the last day of running around ended, and returning home in the sunset by the sea. On the wall was the portrait of my wife, turning off the lights and going to bed, tomorrow is a new day.
"War in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080's Pocket"
In a neutral area in a war, an 11-year-old boy dreamed of participating in the war all day long. One day, several investigators from one side he supported secretly sneaked into the place. The boy sent them information without telling his family. In the seemingly neutral area, a new equipment experiment on the other side is actually being carried out.
The investigators' mission is to destroy the other party's new equipment. During the time they sneak into the neutral zone, one of the young investigators has a good relationship with the boy and they fall in love.
The investigators used the little boy to learn the exact location of the new equipment and prepared to attack. The little boy witnessed the young investigator driving the body and the new equipment driver die together. During the fight, the two could not see each other.
Afterward, the two who died together were the couple who fell in love.
The little boy returned to school and he began to hate war.
Finally, I want to say that whether there is depth is secondary. The key is whether the viewer can calm down and carefully taste it. There are many animations that are very good, but the viewer no longer has the feeling of taste.
The person with depth is always the person, not the work itself.
