Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is the first game in the Assassin's Creed series to feature multiplayer games, and its publisher Ubisoft announced that its online service will be closed in September on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. It is part of more than a dozen games whose online elements will be stopped in the month, meaning players will be unable to play their multiplayer components, access their online features, link your Ubisoft account in the game or install and access downloadable content.
"Online services that turn off some old games allow us to focus our resources on providing an excellent experience for players who are playing updated or more popular games," Ubisoft's help page reads. With theAssassin's Creed Brotherhood originally released in November 2010, it has been online support for nearly 12 years. But it’s always sad to see a piece of gaming history become inaccessible, especially given that the multiplayer element of the game is missing in the remakes of PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
After nearly 12 years of support
In addition to Brotherhood, online services related to Assassin's Creed Apocalypse on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011, as well as Assassin's Creed 3 on PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U in 2012 were also closed. Confusingly, Ubisoft also listed Assassin's Creed II's game as another online element (on PS3 and PC) to close in September, although a separate help page showed that online services on its PC had been closed in June 2021. We have contacted Ubisoft for clarification.
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag in 2013 also has multiplayer elements and seems to be unaffected by the shutdown.
Other games that will disable their online services on various platforms this September include San Francisco Driver, Far Cry 3 2012 release, Ghost Recon: The Future Warrior, The Forgotten Persian Prince, Lehman Legend and Cell Division: Blacklist.
