On August 17, 1498, Cesare Borgia, the illegitimate son of Pope Alexander VI (i.e. Roderic Borgia), became the first person in history to resign from the position of cardinal.
Cesare Borgia in Assassin's Creed II
As the young master of the Borgia family, Cesare Borgia, who studied law, has been promoted rapidly in the church: at the age of 18, he has successively unlocked the Bishop, Archbishop, the title dean of the abbaye de Saint-Michel de Cuxa, and... the Cardinal's series of achievements.
In 1497, Giovanni Borgia, another illegitimate son of Roderic Borgia, was assassinated and killed. The details are still controversial [whether Egio did it remains to be verified]. The death of Giovanni, who was then the commander of the Pope's army, was a good opportunity for Cesare to take office, and Cesare quickly chose the latter in the face of the church and military routes with good development prospects.

Cesare did not immediately find his father to ask for this official (at least he did not see any relevant historical materials), but first gave up the Cardinal on August 17, 1498. On the same day, Louis XII, King of France, appointed Cesare as Duke of Valentino.
Cesare, who was brewing strength in France and received help from the French king, then and his father Roderic Bogia began to strengthen the Borgia family's power in northern Italy, both soft and hard.
In 1499, Cesare, who became the commander of the Pope's army, was sent by his father to capture the towns of Imola and Forlì. The latter ruler is Caterina Sforza [whether it happened to Egio is undescribable.] In January 1500, Cesare defeated the defense of Caterina and won Fly. Caterina was then held in Castellum Sancti Angeli.

In 1503, Cesare, who had fought for several years, won the Republic of San Marino. On August 18 of the same year, his father Roderic Borgia died.
Cesare lost power in the following years due to the loss of the support of the pope, and eventually became a soldier in the Kingdom of Navarra. He died in 1507 at the age of 32 (1475-1507).
