Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series has covered a lot of places in its 15 years. The conflict between the Assassin and the Templars has taken players across five continents, from ancient Greece to Victorian London, spanning 2,300 years of history in 13 main gameplay.
After Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed showcase detailed "Assassin's Creed: Infinite" and announced several upcoming Assassin's Creed games, IGN compiled the Assassin's Creed timeline to date into this timeline. This timeline only includes the main game of Assassin's Creed and does not include side games, because side games are not that important to Assassin's Creed's current narrative.
How to play the Assassin's Creed game in order
There are two ways to look at the timeline of Assassin's Creed.
First: In the order of the modern storyline of the game. This choice makes sense considering that the connective narrative of each regular game is told through the present world. Modern stories follow the release of each game in chronological order, so if you want to play these games like this, just scroll down to "How to play Assassin's Creed Game by release time". If you are committed to playing the full series of games, this is the order we recommend, as this is the best way to follow the overall story and experience the series' evolution from stealth to open-world RPG games.
The second option is arranged according to the historical background settings of the game (see below to play Assassin's Creed in chronological order). These stories are not intertwined like modern stories, but they are where you spend most of your time in Assassin’s Creed. This gameplay is more of an interest than a practical game guide.
