Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard is still underway, and Microsoft needs to convince regulators and competitors. Unsurprisingly, Sony is the main opponent, and Sony claims the deal will cause damage to the industry.
Now, according to industry analyst Michael Pachter, the acquisition will slam Sony but will not have an impact on consumers, and he also pointed out why Sony strongly objected from beginning to end.
Michael Pachter believes that $15 per month (XGPU) is more cost-effective than buying new consoles, new Call of Duty games and PS Plus/Xbox Gold members. Microsoft has previously stated that if the acquisition is successful, it will bring Call of Duty to multiple players, including XGP and Xbox cloud gaming services. Therefore, Sony may lose some potential users, mainly Call of Duty campaign players, who may have purchased the full Call of Duty game before, but after the acquisition is successful, they only need to subscribe to XGP for one month.
Michael Pachter previously claimed that Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard would likely be successful. Microsoft is currently planning to close the acquisition by June 2023, but that will depend on their progress with competitors and regulators.
